Mark “Ranger” Jones

Ranger Mark Jones, better known as “Ranger” Jones was one of the first owners to visit the Center for Veterans Enterprise. Since then, we’ve watched his good work with appreciation. We now invite you to get to know “Ranger” Jones.
Ranger Jones describes his experience in the military as “living the dream.” One look at his service record will tell you why: he began as cook, became an Airborne Ranger and went on to become the Senior Aide to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff—he also jumped with former President Bush along the way. Ranger Jones grew up in a military family and turned to the Army’s Airborne Rangers, initially, in order to secure medical benefits for his wife and two children. His talent, ability and sheer dedication to his unit soon earned him the nickname “Ranger” among his comrades. But it was his sense of mission that led to his reputation as a go-to guy in the Rangers, and now as a world class entrepreneur. To this day, Ranger Jones remains the only Airborne and High Altitude, Low Opening (HALO) jump-qualified cook in US Army history. He served as Senior Aide to the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, General Hugh Shelton in the office directives, which included providing strategic direction for the Armed Forces. He was the principal military advisor to the National Security Council (NSC), directing preparations of contingency plans, advising on programs, requirements and budgeting as well as developing joint doctrine, training and education. His US Army career included more than 4,000 airborne jumps, including the jump with former President Bush.
Following his retirement from the military, Ranger Jones established The Ranger Group, LLC, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), a security services and construction company focusing on Department of Defense opportunities. But beyond his entrepreneurial accomplishments, Ranger Jones remains a strong advocate for service members. The Veterans Business Journal (now Vetrepreneur) has highlighted his work. He is currently assisting in a major recruiting campaign for the US Army. Ranger Jones also serves as a Board Member for the Greater Southeast Hospital Foundation and for the Salute America’s Heroes Foundation. Most notably, and the reason that he is here today, is his work as a Trustee with the Fisher House™ Foundation, an organization that shares his commitment to military and veterans’ communities and their families. Fisher House serves as a "home-away-from-home" for families of patients receiving care at major military and VA medical centers. Since its inception in 1990, the program has assisted more than 100,000 families by providing temporary lodging in a caring environment that allows military and veterans' families to face a medical crisis together. Ranger Jones as one of many Vetreprenuers is recognized for his work with the foundation, and for the advocacy that he brings to this program.
